The Property Institute (IP) plans to collect an additional 300 million lempiras with the vehicle amnesty approved by the National Congress, reported the coordinator of the Citizen Attention unit of the institution, Carlos Flores.
The official explained that this projection is based on the payment of taxes by approximately 900,000 vehicle owners who are in arrears over the last three fiscal years.
The IP expects to collect a total of 4.2 billion lempiras in vehicle registration fees in 2024.
Flores also reported that the country’s vehicle fleet, which includes both active and inactive vehicles, totals 3.5 million vehicles, including motorcycles, construction vehicles, taxis and trucks.
So far, revenue has been positive, so the official is confident that compliance during the last two months of the year, together with the vehicle amnesty, will allow us to exceed income expectations. “We are sure that we will reach the goal and obtain significant growth,” he said.
In December, registration fees for motorcycles, government vehicles, trailers and trucks will be paid.
The vehicle amnesty approved by the National Congress came into effect last Wednesday after its publication in the official newspaper La Gaceta .
