Is Diana Sánchez Barrios a man?, age and who is he?

A person identified as Diana Sánchez Barrios was shot by men riding a motorcycle on Motolinia Street.

On the afternoon of Thursday, October 17, a shootout was reported in the streets of the Historic Center of Mexico City (CDMX) and after a few hours the mayor of Cuauhtémoc confirmed that activist Diana Sánchez Barrios was injured in the conflict.

” I am currently being informed that an activist and colleague of ours, Diana, was injured with a firearm ,” wrote Alessandra Rojo de La Vega on her X account, formerly Twitter.

According to information from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City (CDMX), in addition to Sánchez Barrios, two men were injured in the incident, one of whom died due to a gunshot wound.

Who is Diana Sanchez Barrios?

Diana Sánchez Barrios is a trans woman, activist and human rights defender, known for supporting the causes of street vendors in the Historic Center of Mexico City.

She has also been a prominent figure in the fight for inclusion and visibility of transgender people. In 2021, she was arrested in Mexico City on charges of extortion and gang robbery.

However, despite the accusations, the activist was released and denounced her arrest as an act of political persecution.

Diana was born on January 16, 1975 in Mexico City, making her currently 49 years old, and is the daughter of Alejandra Barrios Richard, a renowned leader of street vendors in the country’s capital.

She is the founder and president of the organization Pro Diana AC, an NGO dedicated to the defense of human rights and promoting respect and non-discrimination for the LGTTTTIQA+ population and vulnerable groups.

In 2014, she promoted the rectification of birth certificates for transgender people and in 2020, Alejandro ‘Alito’ Moreno appointed her Secretary of Civil Society Relations for the PRI in Mexico City.

Finally, in 2024 she participated in politics as a substitute candidate for the Congress of Mexico City. Her candidacy was part of the formula headed by Esther Sánchez Barrios and promoted by the coalition ‘Va por la CDMX’.
