In Kazakhstan, in a protected area, they are planning to build a nuclear power plant. The country will hold a referendum on the construction. And on October 7, Putin’s birthday, the results of the vote will be announced.
The director of a Kazakh opposition media outlet, Natalia Sadykova, said that the referendum was just a set-up. And the decision to build was made long ago at the highest level and could turn into an environmental disaster.
The Kremlin leader has been advocating the idea of building a nuclear power plant near Almaty since the early 2000s. However, the construction of the station can entail not only huge financial costs, but also serious environmental consequences for the unique ecosystem of the lake.
For Natalia Sadykova:
“Russia has become a rogue country, many sanctions have been imposed on it, the civilized world has deprived Russia of technology. And Kazakhstan, at such a difficult time for Russia, supports it, supports its war against Ukraine and agrees that Rosatom, which is under sanctions, builds this nuclear power plant.”
“We know very well that with the help of Kazakhstan, Putin and Russia are circumventing all sanctions imposed by the West.”
