Judicial detention for Colombians captured with almost 4 tons of cocaine in the Honduran Caribbean

So far in 2024, Honduran authorities have seized 14,748 kilos of cocaine, in “operations with the support of different military units.

A judge from the Court of Organized Crime, Environment and Corruption on Tuesday ordered the judicial detention of five Colombians arrested in possession of almost four tons of cocaine last weekend in the Caribbean of Honduras.

The defendants are Alvaro Castro Escalante; Laider Castro Morales; Luis Antonio Polo Silva; Gorji Otero Pomares and Jorge Alfredo Colemer Haylock, the latter also holds Honduran nationality.

The Judiciary reported in its X account that once the hearing of the defendants’ statements was concluded, the judge summoned the parties to the proceedings for next Monday, October 7 , at 9:00 am, to hold the initial hearing.

In addition, it was learned that the five Colombians are accused by the Honduran Prosecutor’s Office of the crime of aggravated drug trafficking ; and will remain imprisoned in the Támara Penitentiary Center, in Francisco Morazán.

The arrest of Colombians with cocaine

On Sunday, September 29, the Honduran Armed Forces, together with anti-drug agents from the Public Ministry, intercepted a speedboat with 160 bales of cocaine.

The boat was intercepted in the fishing banks known as Rosalinda, in the Honduran Caribbean, some 272 nautical miles from the Honduran Naval Force station in Puerto Castilla, in the Caribbean department of Colón, in the east of the country.
