Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris vowed Friday that if elected next November she will maintain White House asylum restrictions and take steps to ensure the border remains closed between ports of entry.
“And as president… I will do more to secure our border, to reduce illegal crossings. I will take further steps to keep the border closed between ports of entry,” Harris said in Douglas, Arizona , before a packed audience that applauded her on her first visit to the border as a candidate.
The vice president made the announcement from a Republican stronghold where the Democrat is seeking to snatch votes from former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) by showcasing proposals that already work and are “common sense.”
Specifically, Harris indicated that she will make it difficult to end the executive order established by the Joe Biden government last June, which has managed to reduce the number of arrests at the southwestern border to average figures for 2019 , and will work to get the US Congress to approve reforms to the immigration system, thereby posing a serious challenge to her opponent’s proposals.
