Several North Korean soldiers have reportedly already deserted the front lines, just as Kim Jong-un was sending his first contingent of troops to Russia.
North Korean forces have been deployed in the Russian regions of Kursk and Bryansk, where Ukrainian troops made significant advances several months ago, taking the Kremlin by surprise.
According to the Ukrainian TV channel Suspilne , citing intelligence sources, the Russian military is now tracking North Korean defectors.
1500 soldiers deployed
South Korea said 1,500 North Korean troops were sent to Russia via the port of Vladivostok, before being assigned to various regiments already fighting on the Ukrainian front.
“North Korean soldiers… are expected to be deployed to the front line as soon as they complete their adaptation training ,” the National Intelligence Service said.
It was also revealed that the North Korean soldiers were given fake identities, as well as Russian uniforms and weapons. “It appears that they disguised themselves as Russian soldiers to hide the fact that they were deployed on the battlefield ,” the agency said.
