Latto has inadvertently left some fans disappointed after her plans to cover someone’s rent during a recent performance were dashed by an audience member who lied about their birthday.
On Saturday (October 24), the ClayCo native performed at ONE Musicfest in Atlanta, taking over the headlining slot which Cardi B was forced to cancel due to a medical emergency. In a video of the performance captured by Butter.Atl, the rapper is heard asking a security guard to check a man’s ID from the stage.
“If it ain’t your birthday,” she says, “you fucked it up for everybody, I ain’t even gon’ lie.”
The video then cuts to Latto shrugging and saying, “I was tryna pay rent,” over the audience’s audible disappointment.
This isn’t the first time in recent weeks that Latto has attempted to bless a fan with a grand financial gesture.
Last month, she launched the “Brokey Challange,” which invited fans to make videos dancing to the rapper’s Sugar Honey Iced Tea cut “Brokey.” One of those fans was a woman named Yadira Ramirez, who shared her submission from her job at Waffle House that included five other employees participating in the clip as well.
Her video soon went viral, but was unfortunately met with consequences, as she shared another post two days later revealing that she’d been fired and placed on the “unable to rehire” list – despite her six-year tenure.
Catching wind of the situation, Latto not only linked up with Yadira, but she also gifted her with a cool $10k.
“My Niece @ofyadira has had quite a week,” the woman’s aunt wrote in a post to Instagram recapping all of the moments. “From having fun at her job, being fired, to winning 10k from @latto. I mean you can’t make this stuff up. Time for the next level.”
eleased in August, Latto’s 21-track Sugar Honey Iced Tea album features appearances from Megan Thee Stallion, Ciara, Young Nudy, Hunxho, Coco Jones, Mariah The Scientist and Teezo Touchdown.
Meg actually appears twice on the album, first on a new song titled “Squeeze,” then again on their previously-released “Sunday Service Remix,” which also features Flo Milli.
The latter appears as a bonus track along with the original “Sunday Service,” 2023’s “Put It On Da Floor” and its accompanying Cardi B-assisted remix, “Put It On Da Floor Again.”
