Aracely Leiva, leader of the Liberal Party, said on the 30/30 program that Libre wants to use the figure of the CICIH in the media as “that cudgel” against the opposition.

Former deputy and leader of the Liberal Party Aracely Leiva said this Sunday that the ruling party Libertad y Refundación (Libre) wants to use the International Commission against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras ( CICIH ) as a smokescreen .

“The CICIH issue is once again being used as a rehash for entertainment and as a smokescreen,” Leyva said on Hoy Mismo’s 30/30 program.

He also criticized “the rhetoric of the coup d’état, that they are the victims, that here there is a Honduran people who were victims,” when “the ones who truly suffered a coup were the Honduran people.”

In the debate with former Vice Minister of the Interior Carmen Haydeé López, the Liberal leader said that in Libre “every day they talk about a coup d’état, but they don’t talk about their responsibility.”

In response, López argued that it was the two-party system that “carried out the coup d’état.”

In this regard, Leiva indicated that she should not be involved in the coup because she was not part of it.

He also said that Libre is seeking to “cause chaos in this country, so that we do not reach the electoral process” scheduled for 2025, when primary and general elections will be held.

Xiomara Castro delivered the second CICIH agreement to the UN
