Inter Miami have posted a new single season points record in MLS, with Messi contributing 20 goals and 16 assists to that cause, but suffered play-off heartache over the course of a three-game series with Atlanta United. They will not be in competitive action again until February 2025.
That campaign will see Messi entering the final year of his contract, and he has posted on social media of remaining fully committed to the pursuit of major silverware in Florida: “A season ended in which we continued to grow as a club and, although we achieved some goals, we wanted more. Thanks to all the people who joined and supported us. Now let’s get ready to come back stronger next year.”

Messi does have the option of a 12-month extension in his Inter Miami contract, with Herons boss Tata Martino telling reporters when asked about his fellow countryman’s long-term future: “I actually don’t know how limited [Messi’s time in this league] is. There is a question of time passing, but I would not dare to say that it is so short.”
