London: Teenager seriously injured in possible acid attack

A 14-year-old pupil was seriously injured after a substance believed to be acid was thrown at her outside her school in west London.

The teenager was taken to hospital where she is being treated for potentially permanent injuries.

Following the incident, which took place at Westminster Academy in west London on Monday, police have opened an investigation to find the perpetrator.

A 16-year-old boy and a 27-year-old woman were also injured in the attack.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Testing of the substance is ongoing. At this stage officers believe it is an acidic substance.”

Numera Anwar, the school’s principal, said: “This was a distressing incident that occurred after school hours as students and staff were leaving the school grounds.”

“This is a difficult time for our community and I have taken the decision to close the school today to allow for a thorough investigation and to ensure that school can resume as normal from tomorrow [Wednesday] with all safety measures in place,” she added   .
