Jordan Taylor, then a young boy, nearly died in a car accident in Texas (United States). The shock of the accident was so violent that it caused what is called an “atlanto-occipital dislocation”, a phenomenon that is generally fatal and that separates the skull from the spine. For rare survivors, it leads, according to health professionals, to lifelong paralysis.

At the hospital, the doctors were speechless when faced with the boy who, despite the impact, was still breathing. Dr. Richard Roberts of Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth later said: “This was the first patient with this injury that I have seen survive”.

“The pediatric neurosurgeon responded by placing Jordan’s skull in a carbon fiber “halo” to stabilize his neck, then performed surgery,” reveals LINFO.re. Using screws and rods, Dr. Richard Roberts fixed a titanium plate to the back of Jordan Taylor’s skull.

Three months after the operation, the boy speaks and walks without any brain damage. His family can only burst with joy at such a rapid, almost miraculous recovery.
