A man was executed early Tuesday morning in a cemetery open to the public, accused of sexually abusing more than 200 women in Iran.
This is Mohammad Ali Salamat , 43, who ran a pharmacy and a gym in Hamedan.
Reports indicate that for more than 20 years the man deceived his victims by offering them marriage or dates before committing the abuse.
He is also suspected of giving several of the women he raped abortion pills , which are illegal in Iran.
It was in January 2024 that Salamat was captured, marking the most significant case of rape attributed to a single individual in the country’s judicial history.
The execution came after Iran’s Supreme Court upheld his death sentence in early October, state-run newspaper IRAN reported.
Although Mohammad Ali Salamat has already been executed, former political prisoner and investigator @Behrouz Javid Behrouz Javid claims there are irregularities in the case.
“Some independent media also expressed solidarity with his victims instead of focusing on the execution. Victims whose existence is even suspected. Why did he not have a single complainant ?” he wrote on Tuesday.
Iran is one of the countries with the highest number of executions in the world, a practice that continues to generate controversy and global debate on justice and human rights.
