Martin Zubimendi responds to talk of €60m Man City move as Pep Guardiola’s side look for Rodri replacement in January

Martin Zubimendi opened up on his future at Real Sociedad amid interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Relevo recently reported that the Cityzens are looking to sign a defensive midfielder in the January transfer window after seeing talisman Rodri sidelined with a long-term injury. The report also claimed that Pep Guardiola’s side could approach Zubimendi with an offer as they are willing to trigger his £50.3m ($65.8m/€60m) release clause.

    The Real Sociedad and Spain star was closely linked with a move to Liverpool during the summer transfer window and the Reds were confident about landing the player, however, the 25-year-old later refused to leave the Spanish club at the last moment as the transfer collapsed.

    WHAT ZUBIMENDI SAID

    The midfielder has seemed to play down move of a talk. He told reporters, “There are always rumours but until now I’ve always thought that the best solution for me is staying at Real Sociedad. I’ve still a lot of things to give to this club, I still want to grow and develop here.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR ZUBIMENDI?

    The player is currently with the Spain national team who are preparing to face Denmark and Serbia in Nations League clashes on October 12 and October 16 respectively.
