For years, Meghan Markle has battled with the press to restore her reputation. Now, a royal expert believes the “accusations of bullying” surrounding the duchess will “never go away.”
Meghan Markle has struggled to restore her image since she and Prince Harry stepped down as senior royals in 2020. Tensions have only increased since their departure, and the constant attacks on Meghan’s character have intensified.
Since she started dating Prince Harry, Meghan has been the target of rumors that have made her look bad to the public. It’s hard to know what’s true and what’s not, and it’s possible that some stories are made up, but that hasn’t stopped the negative fallout.
Accusations set in stone
One expert believes the Duchess will never be able to completely shake off the bullying accusations she faces, as she has “fought back” and attacked the royal family far too often. “What she [Meghan] has done, in her naivety… She has propelled the bullying narrative into perpetual motion ,” royal journalist Kevin O’Sullivan told Talk TV, the Express reports . “She’s fought back so many times; it’s never going to go away .” Meghan is caught in the trap of this bad reputation.
While it’s fair to give Meghan the benefit of the doubt, the number of her “aggressive” and slanderous outings doesn’t count in her favor. She notably gave a tell-all interview to Oprah Winfrey in which she likely intended to clear her own name; however, some were left with the impression that her real intention was to take on the royal family. A feeling that was echoed a second time during the couple’s Netflix special. Later, in an interview on CBS , the Duchess of Sussex would make a sarcastic remark about her relationship with the British monarchy, noting that she had barely “scratched the surface ” of everything she had experienced with Harry’s family.
Repairable damage?
While some may disagree, there seem to be a few ways Meghan can win back the public. Continuing to focus on her philanthropic work is a big one. Another big opportunity lies with the royals. If Meghan rebuilds her relationship with Harry’s family, other aspects of her personality will likely start to shine again.
