In recent days, the case of Lyle and Erik , the Menendez brothers , has resonated. They are two young men who, at the age of 18, brutally murdered their parents, Jose and Kitty, in 1989, in the family mansion, located at 722 North Drive Elm in Beverly Hills . The crime that shocked millions of people continues to cause endless questions that we answer through their Wikipedia page.

The brothers, who came from a wealthy family of Cuban origin (their father was a Hollywood studio executive), were sentenced in 1996 in a second trial to life imprisonment for premeditated murder without the possibility of parole.

In their defense, the brothers claimed that they had suffered all kinds of abuse from their parents and that they were killed out of fear , although the courts then determined that the real motive for the crime was to inherit the family fortune .

What is the case of the Menéndez family on Wikipedia?

The Menendez brothers have been in prison since 1996 for the murder of their parents Jose and Kitty, and have now served 28 years in prison on first-degree murder charges.

The Menendez brothers’ case does not have a profile on Wikipedia ; however, here are some important details.

This brutal patricide was carried out with shots at point-blank range while the family was watching a movie on television, in an act that shocked American society.

The brothers are serving life sentences without the possibility of parole for the patricide; however, US authorities recently announced that they will review new evidence submitted by the brothers’ lawyers last year.

This new evidence, according to District Attorney George Gascón , would demonstrate the sexual abuse committed by José and Kitty against the Menéndez brothers, which would confirm that the young people acted in self-defense .

Who were José and Kitty, parents of the Menéndez brothers?

The Menendez siblings’ parents were Jose Menendez and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez. Jose was a successful Cuban-American businessman in the entertainment industry, known for working with artists such as Duran and Menudo , while Kitty Menendez was born to Mary Louise Andersen and had a life marked by domestic violence and mental health issues.

José Menéndez and Mary Louise “Kitty” Andersen were married in 1963. Their marriage was part of the story that led to the tragic events involving their sons, Lyle and Erik Menéndez.

Lyle Menendez was born on January 10, 1968 in New York, so he is currently 56 years old and his brother Erik Menendez was born on November 27, 1970 in Blackwood12 and is currently 53 years old.

What happened to the Menéndez family fortune?

Following the death of their parents, Lyle and Erik Menendez inherited a fortune estimated at approximately $14 million . However, instead of managing it prudently, the brothers spent large sums on luxuries and extravagant expenses. Lyle bought a Porsche, a Rolex watch , and a restaurant, while Erik invested in high-end tennis lessons and international travel.

This lavish lifestyle raised suspicions and was one of the factors that led authorities to investigate further. In a matter of six months, the brothers are estimated to have spent around $700,000 .

In addition, the legal costs of his defense were exorbitant, significantly reducing the inheritance. An estimated $10.8 million was spent on legal fees and other financial losses.
