Former mayor of the Central District and presidential candidate, Nasry Asfura , appeared this Monday at a hearing to declare himself accused of several crimes. Upon leaving the hearing, he said that he does not believe he is a victim of persecution , but that he believes that in politics anything goes and anything is possible.

He also said that he will continue his political work and that his lawyers will take charge of his defense , while reiterating that: “He who owes nothing, fears nothing . “

Asfura stressed that he has presented bail for a total of 22 million lempiras to guarantee his appearance before the authorities and to demonstrate that he is not evading justice.

During his statement, Asfura said that he feels safe because he is with God and that his integrity is intact and that he is not afraid of accusations.

The former mayor said that the legal process he faces is similar to one he experienced four years ago : “Not one bit has changed. Before, I had immunity and now Uferco argues that I do not have that right, because I am an ordinary citizen.” He reiterated that he continues to work for the benefit of Honduras.

Regarding the repercussions of the accusations against him on his aspirations in the National Party , Asfura defended the transparency of the party, while arguing that each individual is responsible for his actions and the institution should not be blamed for the actions of its members.

Alternative measures

A judge from the Organized Crime, Environment and Corruption Court ordered alternative measures to Nasry “Tito” Asfura , a candidate for the National Party , who is accused of fraud during his term as mayor of Tegucigalpa. Upon leaving the courts, Asfura said that “we must go and sign . “

The alternative measures also benefit seven other people: Cinthia Borjas, Nilvia Castillo, Mario Zerón, Rony López, Wilmer Rodríguez, Roger Ramírez and Oscar Uriarte , who are accused in the same case. The judge set the initial hearing for November 4.

Fiscal Requirement

On October 10, the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), through the Specialized Prosecution Unit Against Corruption Networks (Uferco), issued a fiscal request against Nasry Asfura Zablah . He is accused of alleged embezzlement of public funds and money laundering.

The case involves the diversion of more than 28 million lempiras (L 28,559,062.20), which were allegedly systematically stolen by Asfura and other officials of the Municipal Government of the Central District , with the aim of benefiting individuals and financing personal expenses.
