According to Anton Geraschenko, an adviser on Ukraine, one might think that the Russian media and the Kremlin’s main spokesmen completely ignored the American election. Other topics largely dominated the internal information space. But this is clearly not true.
Anton Geraschenko is an official adviser and former deputy minister of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry. He’s a former member of the Ukrainian parliament. According to him:
“The few official statements by figures such as Medvedev try to portray a position of complete indifference with regard to the election results. But if you read between the lines, Russian officials suggest that Trump would be the best candidate for Russia.”
Geraschenko also claims that:
“Russia has no preference for Harris or Trump. What it really wants is to destabilize the United States. This is the real reason for its false indecision: to ensure that there’s no clear winner in the elections, which would sow doubt in the democratic system, cause even more divisions in American society and could even lead to civil unrest. Russia will do everything it can to bring unbalance to the United States and weaken the country it considers its main “rival” on the international stage.”
