New Music Friday: New Albums From NLE Choppa, DaBaby, Moneybagg Yo & More

HIPHOPDX –

Friday means more new music and this week there is a wide range of releases from some old favorites and budding superstars.

NLE Choppa embraces everything horny on his new project Slut SZN, while on the opposite side of the coin DaBaby returns with his introspective effort How TF is This a Mixtape?

Fellow Southern rap stalwart Moneybagg Yo has also given fans an update to his Speak Now album with seven bonus tracks, with other releases coming from the likes of Tommy Richman, Consequence and the late Foolio.

See the full list of albums below and check out this week’s best new singles featuring tracks from The Weeknd and Playboi Carti, Tee Grizzley and J. Cole, Young Thug and more.

Features: 41, Carey Washington, Whethan, J.P., Yaisel LM

Production: Bandplay, CuBeatz, Bauuer, EMRLD, Sharkboy

Label: NLE Choppa Entertainment Inc. / Warner

“Slut Me Out” became the biggest hit of NLE Choppa’s career when it dropped in 2022, with the Memphis rapper later delivering not one but two sequels to the ultra-horny song. He now signs off on his era of promiscuity with Slut SZN, a brief eight-track mixtape that celebrates everything raunchy.

DaBaby — How TF Is This a Mixtape?

Features: N/A

Production: KayoTheWizard, Sean da Firzt, Charlie Heat, Cash Flo, Mando Fresh

Label: South Coast Music Group / Interscope

It’s been a tumultuous few years for DaBaby following controversial comments that were perceived as homophobic and a number of projects that were received far less warmly than his mammoth 2019 efforts, Baby on Baby and Kirk. With How TF is This a Mixtape?, the North Carolina native is looking to recapture past glories.

The entirely solo 14-track tape sees Baby in a more reflective mood than fans are used to as he explores his mistakes in the public eye. This mature effort fits nicely alongside his new mental health initiative DaBaby Cares.

Moneybagg Yo — Speak Now Or…

Features: GloRilla, BossMan Dlow, Big Boogie

Production: Go Grizzly, Dun Deal, London Jae, Bandplay, Kast Beats

Label: CMG / N-Less / Interscope

A swift follow-up to his eclectic Speak Now album from earlier this year which featured guest appearances from artists as far and wide as country star Morgan Wallen to Chris Brown and Lil Durk, Speak Now Or… is another lengthy project, clocking it at a huge 24 tracks.

While it features only seven new songs — including a couple of tantalizing collaborations — Big Speaker has completely rejigged the tracklist so it is almost like a brand new album.

Tommy Richman — Coyote

Features: Trevor Spitta, Zachary Moon, Paco, mynameisntjmack

Production: Jonah Roy, Tommy Richman, John Wehmeyer, lim0, Mannyvelli

Label: ISO Supremacy / PULSE Records / Concord

The viral star, who has as many fans as he does detractors, made the unexpected move of leaving off hits such as “Million Dollar Baby” and “Devil is a Lie” from his debut album. Tommy Richman instead has looked to put together a whole project that can stand on its own as he attempts to establish himself as a reckoning star within the world of R&B.

Foolio — Demi God

Features: Trayboy, Tay Stackzz, Project Youngin

Production: Drew Make The Beat, Wavy 808, Been Heet

Label: E6PN / Create Music Group

Three months after he was gunned down outside of a motel in Tampa, Florida, Foolio’s first posthumous project has arrived. A series of eery posts on the late rapper’s Instagram page have spooked fans following his murder, and the mystery thickens on Demi God with bizarre song titles nodding to John Legend, the City Girls, NoCap and more.

Consequence — Nice Doing Business With You

Features: Kanye West, YNW Melly, Chris Rock, Tony Williams, Caiden The Crownholder, Wé Ani

Production: Kanye West, 88-Keys, Consequence, Keezo Kane, Fyaman

Label: 192 Records / Hitmaker Distro

The veteran Chicago MC has always left fans wanting more as his output has been limited throughout his 20 years in the rap game. With his first album since 2007, Consequence has finally delivered the goods, complete with assistance from old G.O.O.D. Music comrades Kanye West and Tony Williams, plus a surprising appearance from comedian Chris Rock who pops up to offer some advice about the ladies.
