New victim of dengue in Olancho

This is one of many cases reported in Silca, Olancho, where doctors have reported multiple deaths attributed to dengue.

This Thursday, a new victim of dengue fever was reported at the San Francisco General Hospital in Juticalpa, Olancho, eastern Honduras, raising the alert in the region.

 The deceased, named Dilcia Anabel Maradiaga Santos, 31 years old, originally from the municipality of Silca, spent several days in the hospital observation room before her death, under suspicion of having contracted the disease, the doctors said.

This is one of many cases that have been reported this year in Silca, Olancho, where hospital doctors have reported multiple deaths attributed to dengue.

San Francisco Hospital, for its part, reports an average of 20 patients admitted daily due to the disease, which has led health authorities to intensify recommendations to the population to take preventive measures.

In the same week, another victim, Merlyn Roxana García Villanueva, also died in the Juticalpa Hospital due to dengue. With this, the alarming figures for 2024 reveal 147 deaths and more than 110,000 cases registered in Honduras.

Authorities are asking people to take preventive measures, such as avoiding water accumulation and protecting themselves from mosquitoes, in view of the increase in cases.
