Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group, who purchased a minority stake in United at the start of the year, have sparked controversy by removing legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson as the club’s global ambassador – a position he has been holding since retiring from coaching in 2013 – in a bid to cut the club’s expenses.

    United legend Rio Ferdinand, who played for 11 years under the Scottish coach at Old Trafford, did not appreciate Ratcliffe’s decision. Since buying a 25 per cent stake at Old Trafford, the British billionaire has been proactive in taking multiple harsh calls to sort out the club’s messy expenditure.

    WHAT RIO FERDINAND SAID

    Taking to X, the former England and United star wrote: “If Sir Alex can be taken out, then NO ONE IS SAFE at @ManUtd – anyone can get it now. INEOS sending a message to ANYONE at the club?!?”
