Russia continues to dominate on the eastern front line. Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi insists that his troops are facing “one of the most powerful Russian offensives” since the start of the invasion.
In October, the Russian army made its largest territorial gains in a single month since the start of the invasion. The French news agency AFP reports this, based on data from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW). The Russians captured several Ukrainian villages. These include Selydove, located about fifteen kilometers southeast of Pokrovsk, and Kruhljakivka, which is located 20 kilometers south of Kupyansk – a city that Moscow has been trying to capture for months.
In addition, Russian air raids continue to take place mercilessly. For example, the Russians dropped no fewer than 900 bombs on Ukraine in just one week. According to the president, there were also about 30 missile and cruise missile attacks in the past week, as well as about 500 drone attacks. And these air strikes can be avoided, Ukrainian President Zelensky emphasizes. “All those attacks would have been impossible if we had had anti-aircraft defense,” the Ukrainian president said.
Last week, Kiev announced a new mobilization of 160,000 troops in response to the accelerated Russian advance and concerns about possible support from North Korean troops to Moscow.
