Rafael Ortiz , 29, kidnapped his three daughters after separating from his wife and, days later, they were found drowned in the Paraná River, between Paraguay and Argentina.
The bodies were found on Friday, after five days of intense searching following a complaint filed by the girls’ mother, who reported that her daughters had been kidnapped by her ex-partner.
Ortiz, motivated by an apparent emotional crisis after the breakup of his relationship , had tried to pressure his ex-partner to get back together with him, threatening to harm his daughters if she did not agree.
The minors, identified as Fátima Mabel (7 years old), Liz Araceli (5 years old) and Emma Sofía (1 year old), disappeared along with their father on the same day of the complaint, which triggered a search on both banks of the Paraná River.
Luisa Torres, the girls’ aunt, said that he sent a threatening message to his sister saying: “If you don’t come back with me, we’re all going to throw ourselves into the Paraná .”
During the autopsy, it was confirmed that the youngest of the girls had a head injury , which could indicate an act of violence prior to falling into the water.
Authorities are still waiting for the full forensic report to confirm the cause of death of the other two girls and to clarify whether it was a homicide followed by suicide.
