Over 100 pupils have stopped attending school due to the dire condition of LEA Primary School Ledi 2 in Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT Abuja.
The school’s broken-down classrooms, leaking roofs, and lack of furniture have rendered it unsuitable for learning, forcing young students to abandon their education.
Monitng, a civic technology platform focused on public accountability, in a statement on Tuesday raised alarm about the neglected state of the school, urging FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe to intervene swiftly.
The appeal, shared under #ActNow and #FixOurSchools, calls for immediate action to safeguard the pupils’ educational future.
“This is the unfortunate state of LEA Primary School Ledi 2,” Monitng stated, drawing attention to the urgent repairs needed.
“Rather than prioritising education, the government often focuses on projects that don’t address citizens’ core needs,” said Ilevbaoje Uadamen, founder of Monitng.
“This leads to misplaced priorities in the budget. It’s essential for citizens’ needs to guide project implementation and budget planning to ensure impactful development.”
Monitng emphasises that the urgent needs of citizens, especially in education, should take precedence in budget allocation and project execution.
The platform argues that government focus should shift toward essential services like schooling to ensure community progress and the welfare of the younger generation.
