Belarusian No. 1 Lukashenko stabbed Putin in the back once again: the dictator is conducting backroom negotiations with the West.
Indeed, Lukashenko confirmed that he maintains contacts with representatives of Western countries, including the United States.
Lukashenko and the representative of the US State Department spoke behind closed doors. Presumably, they discussed the release of most political prisoners in exchange for easing sanctions against Belarus.
The regime has already sent the West a signal of its willingness to discuss the issue, for example, by releasing a small number of prisoners to demonstrate its seriousness.
It can also be assumed that Lukashenko was offered not to run for new elections in exchange for security guarantees for himself and his family.
Lukashenko’s ambiguous attitude greatly irritates Moscow.
