Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that Vladimir Putin is “desperate” as he turns to North Korea for help.

After two years of fighting in Ukraine, the Russian army is depleted and struggling to replenish its ranks, which is why the Russian leader has sought support from his North Korean ally.

According to intelligence gathered by Kyiv, Pyongyang could deploy 10,000 soldiers to the Ukrainian battlefield to fight alongside Russian forces.

Like Ukraine, South Korea has also gathered information confirming that North Korean troops are being sent to Russia, where they will be trained before heading to the front lines.

Following a meeting with the US, France, and Germany, the British Prime Minister argued that this plea for help highlights Vladimir Putin’s desperation as the conflict drags on.

“If it’s true, then to my mind, it shows a level of desperation in relation to Russia, Russia is in a difficult position in terms of the number of casualties and the financial strain this war is placing on them,” he said.

“If they are now turning to North Korean soldiers, it looks more like an act of desperation than anything else,” he added.
