From October 22 to 24, the Russian president will welcome around twenty foreign leaders for the BRICS summit in Kazan (capital of the Republic of Tatarstan).
Through this major event, Vladimir Putin wants to demonstrate that the West has not succeeded in isolating him since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. This alliance of emerging countries could, according to the Kremlin, surpass “Western hegemony,” reports Le Monde. Moscow is also looking forward to organizing “the most important diplomatic event ever organized in Russia”.
On Tuesday, the Kremlin leader will welcome Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India. “My visit to Kazan will further strengthen the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia,” Narendra Modi had said before his arrival in Kazan. Later in the day, a meeting is also planned with Xi Jinping, Putin’s Chinese ally.
