Journalist and chef Alexei Zimin has died at the age of 52, as reported by the media outlet Afisha. The circumstances surrounding his sudden death remain unclear.
Initial reports indicated that Alexei Zimin was found dead in London, where he had been living, but it has since been confirmed that his body was discovered in Belgrade, Serbia.
Since moving to the British capital, Alexei Zimin launched a restaurant named Zima and a magazine. He was also one of the Kremlin’s most outspoken critics, frequently sharing anti-war content on Instagram in opposition to the conflict in Ukraine.
After posting a clip of himself singing a song protesting the war, his television show in Russia was abruptly canceled.
At the onset of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022, Alexei Zimin shared a message calling for the return of Russian soldiers.
He also wrote: “Like everyone who grew up in the USSR, I was brought up with the fairly common sense belief that war is the worst thing that can happen. There is no excuse for it and even if there were, now it’s too late to make excuses.”
