The head of Ukraine’s armed forces has warned that Russia is conducting one of its “most powerful offensives” since the conflict began in February 2022, as Vladimir Putin’s forces have made gains on the eastern front.

Russia has steadily reclaimed territory in the Donbas region, which the Kremlin aims to annex in full. According to Reuters, citing publicly available data, Russia has advanced rapidly this year.

Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, acknowledged that the battlefield situation remains “difficult” and that some areas need a “renewal of units.”

Nevertheless, he added that Ukrainian forces are holding their ground against Russian offensives.

Meanwhile, Moscow continues its strategy of drone attacks targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, aiming to plunge the country into darkness and cold as winter approaches.

For months, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been urging the removal of restrictions on the use of Western weapons to allow strikes on targets within Russia.

To date, no Western country has considered lifting these restrictions, fearing it could lead to an escalation of the conflict.
