From Friday October 25 to Sunday October 27, the show La Machine enchanted the town of Toulouse, France.
A large-scale show that drew no less than 1.2 million spectators over three days. La Machine featured giant automatons moving through the streets and alleys of the city known as the “ville rose”.
And while the show was in full swing, “148 cars were impounded”, reports Actu Toulouse. A seizure that infuriated the motorists concerned, forcing them to pay 136 euros to get their vehicles back. However, some of the motorists who witnessed the spectacle have contacted the “60 millions de piétons 31” association. “They believe, perhaps with good reason, that they were misinformed about the complicated timetable for setting up the security perimeters”, the organization points out.
The association’s representative in Toulouse, Richard Mébaoudj, asks: “Could Toulouse City Council consider setting up a sort of crisis unit to reimburse unfairly affected people?”, pointing out that people on modest incomes have been impacted by the incident.
And that’s not all, since the neighborhood association Bien Vivre à Toulouse Centre (BVTC) has also decided to take up the matter and sent a letter to the mayor of Toulouse: “We ask you, Mr. Moudenc, to show understanding and leniency, so that the motorists concerned do not have to pay these very special fines”.
For its part, the mayor’s office defends itself and claims to be far from reproachful. “For the Urban Opera, the installation of no-parking signs and the information provided to users by the organization were particularly meticulous and monitored over time, with photos of the signs provided by the services”. Now that’s clear.
