Still fearful of certain noises that remind them of their trauma, Amani and Lira have come out of quarantine. The two Ukrainian lionesses have discovered their enclosure in the Belgian park of Pairi Daiza.
Amani and Lira arrived in Belgium on September 20, 2024 from Ukraine where they were living in very difficult conditions. These two rescued lionesses had to respect a quarantine, for their safety and health. A new stage in their life took place on November 14, 2024. They discovered their welcome enclosure in the Belgian zoological park of Pairi Daiza, south of Brussels. This first exit from their isolation took place at a feline pace between fear and curiosity, but with calm.
Close to the tigers
The location of the lionesses has been set up in part of the territory of the white tigers Mumbaï and Sanka. They will also have to adapt to this new neighborhood. The park managers exceptionally leave the door to the lionesses’ interior space open so that they can take refuge in case of stress. Especially since some unusual noises, probably too close to their bad memories in Ukraine, remind them of their trauma.
Before the United Kingdom
This stay in Belgium is temporary. It’s important that the felines relearn how to live in a peaceful environment before their big departure. Indeed, when everything is ready, they will go to the United Kingdom to the Big Cat Sanctuary where a brand new habitat is under construction. They will join three other Ukrainian lions in their permanent refuge, to end their days there.
