WHAT HAPPENED?

After Juventus’ 3-0 victory over Udinese in Serie A in August 2023, Pogba underwent an anti-doping test and was found positive for the prohibited substance DHEA. The midfielder was slapped with a four-year ban from football but, following appeal, has had his ban reduced to just 18 months. Returning from the ban will also bring a huge financial windfall for Pogba who, according to Gazetta dello Sport, had been earning ‘minimum wage’ during his ban.

Pogba had been earning around €9 million per year at Juventus after joining as a free agent from Manchester United for the second time. However, despite the end of his ban, it is likely Pogba and Juventus will try to find a way to end his unsuccessful return to Italy early. Still only 31, Pogba will hope he can have at least one more spell at an elite club before hanging up his boots.
