Gruesome images of the battered body of Dmitry Golenkov were shared on Telegram on Monday. The Russian air force colonel was beaten to death with a hammer in Russia’s Brjansk region.
The Russian had participated in airstrikes on Ukrainian civilian targets including a shopping mall. That June 2022 bombing killed at least 22 people and wounded more than 60. Images of the burning building went around the world at the time. In addition, according to Ukrainian military intelligence agency HUR, he was also responsible for the devastating airstrike on an apartment building in the southeastern city of Dnipro last January that killed at least 46 people including six children.
He was found murdered in an orchard in Suponevo in the Brjansk oblast, which borders Belarus, among other places.
