The Russian camp racked its brains to find THE new way to counter Ukrainian aerial drones.
The famous FPV, that is subjective view kamikaze devices, have become a real scourge on the war batlle ground. In order to protect themselves from them, Russian troops have once again shown inventiveness: after the armored golf carts, here come the “turtle tanks”.
Steel shell (almost like the roof of a garden shed, according to Korii) and armored vehicle, and there you have it. The monster is out. An addition of scrap metal that isn’t without consequences for the pilot, whose field of vision and firing angle are heavily restricted, therefore creating a hindrance to his mobility .
An aberration that, as Korii points out, could be used as a mine-clearing machine “which would considerably slow down its speed and expose it even more to drone attacks. This could explain the desire of Russian engineers to protect the tank in this way.”
It isn’t certain that this armored turtle is very useful… Especially since the specificity of FPVs is to identify the flaw and exploit it. “You just have to slip under the shell (from the front or the back of the machine) to inflict damage on it,” Korii emphasizes.
