Salvadoran man sentenced to 25 years in prison for abusing a girl over 10 years
The convicted man threatened to kill the victim so that she would not tell anyone what had happened.

A criminal court in El Salvador sentenced a man to 25 years in prison for raping a girl , an abuse that was repeated over 10 years , the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported on Monday.
The source identified the convicted man in X as Carlos Humberto Dueñas and pointed out that the crime was committed in the rural district of San Pablo Tacachic o, in the central department of La Libertad.
“Dueñas abused the victim from 1995 to 2005. This individual took advantage of the opportunity to commit the assaults when the girl’s mother went to work and the minor was left in his care,” the prosecution reported.
He added that the convicted man “threatened to kill the victim so that she would not tell what had happened,” for which he was sentenced by the First Sentencing Court of Santa Tecla.
According to the University Observatory of Human Rights (OUDH), El Salvador recorded “pandemic” levels of sexual abuse against minors under 18 years of age in 2023, with a rate of 526 attacks per 100,000 girls and adolescents.
The entity indicated in its closing report for that year that this estimate results from the cross between the population estimates for 2023 of 1,892,542 children and adolescents and the total number of victims of sexual violence registered by the National Council for Early Childhood, Childhood and Adolescence (Conapina) of 4,867 cases.
