The president of the First Professional College of Honduran Teachers (Pricphma), Jury Hernández, pointed out through TSi’s Noticiero Hoy Mismo, that there will be an increase in the number of school dropouts and failed students in the country in 2024.
According to Hernandez, this situation is a consequence of the government’s decision to offer only one academic recovery this year, instead of the two that were allowed in previous years.
The union leader argues that, although they support the measure, it is essential that parents and students understand the rules established from the beginning of the school year.
Hernandez argues that the reduction in the number of remedial opportunities is intended to control assessment standards, ensuring that students do not fail when they go to university by having a solid educational foundation from the basic and secondary level.
“Academic failure should not be a burden on those who wish to study,” said the leader.
Education authorities and teachers are called upon to analyse this situation and seek alternatives that favour student retention, while maintaining high standards of educational quality, he concluded.
