- Red Dragons have enjoyed meteoric rise
- Have sights locked on reaching top-flight
- Ex-Arsenal and Chelsea star is a big fan
For now, Hollywood co-chairmen in North Wales are dreaming of rubbing shoulders with English football’s elite. A meteoric rise has lifted the Red Dragons out of the National League – as record-breaking champions – and into League One.
Positive progress is being made in another promotion bid, as a third successive step up the EFL ladder is sought, and nobody at SToK Racecourse is shying away from the fact that ultimate goals include reaching the top table.
Ex-Arsenal and Chelsea star Petit is impressed by the work that two ownership novices have overseen, telling Prime Casino of a remarkable sporting story: “I’m a huge fan of Ryan Reynolds as an actor and a person, but also as a club owner now. He has good values alongside Rob McElhenney, and they’ve already had two promotions and are even competing to get into the Championship thanks to them.
“They are doing things properly, step by step; they have the money and the ambition; it’s a dream for their fans, and I’m actually quite jealous! They have done great things already, and the fans just look delighted. Maybe one day they will sell the club if they get to the Premier League, but it’s been a great story so far.”
Wrexham currently sit second in the League One table – suffering just one defeat through eight games, in their so-called ‘Hollywood derby’ date with Tom Brady and Birmingham – and the expectation is that Reynolds and McElhenney will seek further investment at some stage if more progress through the divisions is made.
