Sexagenarian arrested for alleged rape of his granddaughter

A 69-year-old man was arrested by authorities on Friday for the alleged crime of rape against his own granddaughter.

 The detainee is originally from Veracruz, Copán, and a resident of the village of San José del Boquerón in San Pedro Sula and also faces charges for aggravated acts of lust in real competition.

The victim went to the authorities and reported the suspect, so agents from the Police Investigation Department (DPI) executed the arrest warrant.

Following his arrest, the suspect was taken to the corresponding courts to face the charges against him. The authorities have indicated that the case will continue its legal course in accordance with the law.

This unfortunate incident highlights the importance of reporting and the prompt response of the authorities to situations that violate the rights of minors, said members of the National Police. According to the Honduran Penal Code, the accused can be sentenced to 15 to 20 years in prison for this crime.
