Vladimir Putin has signed a federal law banning any census of the Russian population.
According to several sources, this initiative is aimed at hiding the demographic impact that the local population has suffered because of the conflict in Ukraine, which has lasted for more than two years and led to the death of tens of thousands of soldiers on each side.
According to a report by independent media outlet Mediazona and BBC News Russian released on September 27, more than 71,000 Russian men have been killed in combat, an increase of nearly 2,000 deaths compared to the figures given in mid-September.
The legislation, which will be in effect until 2029, now prohibits making observations and collecting statistics on the population.
It is impossible to predict whether Russia will take further steps in this direction before 2029.
