On September 1, a New York woman had her $1,500 electric wheelchair stolen.
The thief is a woman. She was smoking in front of a store before committing the crime. This is what the victim Rosalyn Johnson, 70 years old, reported during her statement to the police department. Adding: “Addicts steal everything that is not fixed [to the ground]”. Her story was also confirmed by the video surveillance images released by the NYP.D (New York City Police Department). The suspect fled west, on Sterling Place. Since then, she has not been found.
Rosalyn Johnson had been in a wheelchair since her 2011 stroke. She told the New York Post that she had forgiven the criminal. “I feel bad for her. That’s just the way things are in this neighborhood. I feel bad for her. She’s got her own addiction to deal with.” The robbery has undoubtedly taken a toll on the septuagenarian, who has lost a vital part of her mobility.
To help her out and give her back her independence, NYP.D. Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry has decided to offer Rosalyn Johnson a new chair. Despite everything, the deputy commissioner does not give up on his target and promises: “we are going to make her [the thief] famous and we are going to arrest her. “And then we are going to take her to church with Mrs. Johnson, because that is what she wants.”
