On the day he completed his 3,000-kilometer race , Shin Fujiyama revealed that he was born with heart problems and that doctors told him he “could never be an athlete.”
Through an emotional video shared on his social media, the influencer born in Japan in 1983 explained the details of his condition and the restrictions it entailed.
“I was born with a heart defect called ‘septic ventricular defect ,’ meaning I had a hole in my heart and I bled ; the doctors told my parents that I couldn’t play many sports and that I would never be a high-performance athlete,” he explained.
After the diagnosis, his parents, who are running alongside him, dedicated time, money and a lot of hope to improve his condition.
Although Shin Fujiyama eventually managed to lead a normal life, his parents never stopped worrying about his health, he said in the clip.
“If I can run those 3,000 kilometers from Reynosa, Mexico, to San Pedro Sula, Cortés, I can show my parents that their son no longer has limits and they can stop worrying about me,” he said while hugging them.
