Snoop Dogg marked the anniversary of Ice Cube‘s seminal Death Certificate LP by revealing how big an influence the record had on him following its release in 1991 — including providing inspiration for Snoop’s star-making turn on Dr. Dre‘s The Chronic the following year.
“This was the dopest shit in 1991,” he captioned a post that acknowledged the album’s 33rd anniversary on Tuesday (October 29). “Inspired a lot of my lyrics for the chronic album.”
He went on to thank not only Cube himself but also two of the rap icon’s collaborators on the project, DJ Pooh and Sir Jinx. Jinx, in a 2020 interview with Soren Baker, credited Pooh with being the “captain” of the album.
“DJ Pooh took it to another level because he was a professional,” Jinx explained, clarifying that at that point in his career Pooh had already worked with Cali legend King Tee. “For him to come in on Death Certificate, it was like my older brother.”

Snoop paid tribute to Death Certificate just one day before revealing the release date for his forthcoming Dr. Dre-produced album, Missionary.
With a hilarious trailer, Snoop announced in a post to X that the LP will arrive on December 13.
In the clip, a pair of nerdy Mormons walk up to a picturesque house thinking they were going to be spreading the word of God – only to be met by a voluptuous woman in lingerie who thought their “missionary work” meant something totally different when she booked them.
During an interview at the Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles earlier this month, Snoop Dogg teased Missionary’s star-studded supporting cast.
“This new record is gonna put me in a position to probably have that final big stadium tour ’cause there’s a lot of features on this record that I’m excited about that are big-name artists,” he said.
“I got a feature from Jelly Roll and Sting. I’m so happy that me and Sting got a record that’s so good.”
He also shed light on the making of Missionary, likening it to his early career when Dre would take the reins in the studio.
“In my mind, I made it up that I’m gonna go back to being Snoop Doggy Dogg,” the rap legend said. “I want to be the student, the kid, the passenger. I want to humble myself and go in the studio and allow him to tell me what I need to do and produce me.
“You discovered me when I was a rock, you created this diamond, so I’ma allow you to shine it one more time.”
