Beginning March 22, 2024, survivors of natural disasters in the United States can access financial support of up to $750 (18,823 lempiras) through FEMA’s Severe Needs Assistance Program.
This benefit is designed to cover essential expenses such as water, food, baby formula, emergency supplies, fuel and transportation.
To be eligible, applicants must meet several requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen , non-citizen national, or qualified non-citizen
- Owning a home located in an area declared a disaster area
- Reside permanently at the affected address
- That the primary residence has been approved after the FEMA inspection
- Submit the application within the period in which the program is active.
The $750 benefit is granted per household and can be requested within 30 days after the disaster is declared. In addition, this amount is adjusted each year according to the Cost of Living (COLA), which allows support to be kept up to date.
