Customs officials were surprised to discover that a passenger had hidden a huge Burmese python in his hand luggage.
The discovery took place at Tashkent airport in Uzbekistan, when a man was ordered to open his luggage by local customs officials as the reptile was asleep inside.
“The attempt to smuggle a three-meter snake at the ‘Gishtkuprik’ border customs post was discovered,” the region’s customs department said in a statement.
“Inside, a snake, which had not been declared verbally to customs officers or in the passenger’s customs declaration, was discovered.”
The customs service added that an investigation has been opened into the conditions of its arrival in the country and that the animal has been taken to the Tashkent zoo where specialists are taking care of it.
