SZA and Keke Palmer fans have now gotten a first look at their upcoming buddy comedy “One Of Them Days,” which features a supporting cast of A-list stars.
Released on Thursday (October 24), the 2:32 preview sees the two stairs playing a pair of down-on-their-luck best friends. The clip opens as Dreux (played by Palmer) is waiting to be picked up from work by Alyssa (SZA), who pulls up in a beat-up, old hatchback quickly spitting out excuses for being late.
Over the course of the trailer, viewers learn that in addition to already having money problems, the young women find themselves in an even bigger predicament when Alyssa’s boyfriend steals their rent.
The Issa Rae-produced comedy, which hits theaters January 24, also features Lil Rel Howery, Abbott Elementary star Janelle James, and Katt Williams.
While making such a comment about somebody’s mental wellbeing might ordinarily cause offense, SZA said the famously sharp-tongued comedian actually meant it as a “compliment.”
“We shot a movie last night. I’ve never shot a movie before, so I was freaking out. It’s a lot of being scared to be myself. I’m either gonna pretend it never happened or not show up to the premiere,” she said.
“I met Katt Williams [on set]. He told me I was mentally ill, like, as a compliment. He was like, ‘Sa, I believe you might have some mental—’ And I was like, ‘Illness?’ And he was like, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘Oh, welcome.’”
In addition to allowing her to recapture the chemistry she shared with Keke Palmer during their 2022 Saturday Night Live episode, One Of Them Days is just another recent example of SZA showing off her skills outside of music.
In a video shared on Instagram in July ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the TDE songstress met up with U.S. gymnast Simone Biles and showcased her own skills in the gymnasium.
The clip begins with the two women embracing before SZA reveals that it had been a “dream” of hers to meet Biles, who is the most decorated gymnast in history.
The “Kill Bill” hitmaker also talks about her own past career in gymnastics before she decided to pursue music.
“When it was clear to me that I wasn’t gonna be a national gymnast, I was like, ‘Okay, let me see what I can do.’ I needed something to be competitive at,” she says.
SZA then dusts off some of her old moves by doing a handstand alongside Biles.
