Gérard Araud, former ambassador of France to the United States and expert on American politics, spoke to French news channel LCI about the Nov. 5 election.
Gérard Araud is convinced that “if there is a Trumpist surge, there will be no contest. In all other cases, including a clear victory for Kamala Harris, Donald Trump will declare himself the winner on the evening of Nov. 5 and say there has been cheating.”
Gérard Araud is certain it will take time to get the final results.
“Trump has announced that he can only be defeated if the other side has cheated. And so there will already be hundreds of lawyers on the ground immediately filing lawsuits in every conceivable jurisdiction. And because American elections are so organized, there will be counties whose results won’t be known for another week. So there will be problems and challenges regardless.”
Gérard Araud is therefore very pessimistic on the eve of the U.S. presidential election.
“I am pretty sure that, apart from Trump’s surge, the country will enter a period of tension, unrest and possible violence for several weeks.”
