Pope Francis surprised thousands of young Belgians gathered in Brussels on Saturday for the Catholic festival “Hope Happening” by stopping by in the afternoon to greet them and ask them to “make a fuss.”

“Young people create chaos. And if such a young person seems boring, that young person lacks youth. I give you some advice: go ahead and create chaos,” said the Pope, amid the enthusiasm of the young people.

“We’ll see you tomorrow. And do not abandon prayer,” the Pope added in his brief appearance after meeting with the Jesuits at the nunciature.

Although the Pope began his agenda at 8:00 in the morning, he did not hesitate to visit Brussels Expo, where young people gathered on the eve of the mass that the pontiff will officiate at the King Baudouin Stadium this Sunday.

The event, whose name translates from English as “Hope that Happens,” maintains the spirit of World Youth Day (WYD), with activities such as pilgrimages through Brussels, workshops on faith and musical performances.

Believers aged between 12 and 30 gathered from 10:00 in the morning to walk the final stretch to the festival, in a pilgrimage for “unity, climate and refugees” that departed from different points of the capital to the exhibition complex.

The young people will spend the night together in a covered campsite located at the Brussels exhibition centre awaiting the mass that the Pope will officiate the following morning.
