Elena Vaelbe Trubitsina, three-time Olympic cross-country skiing champion and now president of the national federation, bitterly deplores the fact that her country is thus ostracized from international sport.
“Sooner or later, Russia will return to international competitions,” says the President of the Russian Cross-Country Skiing Federation since 2010. The former Russian sports star thinks that her country should have resorted to force to obtain its reinstatement.

“If we had bombed the centre of London, we would have already been allowed to compete again. Russia has been fighting the outside world for centuries. It has never appreciated us. And even when it pretends to like us, it has a knife hidden behind its back.”
