The United States will not impose new restrictions on the use of its arsenal in Ukraine, even if North Korean troops engage Ukrainian forces.

While Washington has consistently barred Kyiv from using U.S. weapons to target sites within Russia, the Pentagon has clarified that no additional restrictions will be introduced.

“A portion of those soldiers have already moved closer to Ukraine, and we are increasingly concerned that Russia intends to use these soldiers in combat or to support combat operations against Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk Oblast near the border with Ukraine,” said Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh, according to Reuters.

Earlier this week, NATO confirmed that North Korean troops are already stationed in Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces are defending their positions following a breakthrough last summer.

According to the Pentagon, 10,000 North Korean soldiers are currently training in Russia and may eventually be deployed to the front lines.

While Ukrainian intelligence reported the presence of North Korean troops in the Kursk region, the Pentagon has declined to confirm this information.

Last week, during his closing address at the BRICS summit, Vladimir Putin neither confirmed nor denied the presence of North Korean soldiers in Russia.
