The controversy continues to swell following the shocking statements made by Pope Francis on his return from Belgium to Rome and the Vatican.
On leaving Belgium, Pope Francis spoke again about abortion, and made this shocking statement:
“Abortion is murder, a human being is killed. And doctors who perform such an act are hired killers.”
A sentence against abortion, therefore against the law since the abortion law was passed in Belgium in 1990. Statements that seem completely disconnected from real life.
And the Pope adds:
“Women have the right to life: their own life and that of their children.”
Even within the ranks of the church, some are shocked, like Gabriel Ringlet, priest, theologian and former vice-rector of the Catholic University of Louvain, who said on RTBF that “these remarks are unbearable. I work in a hospital with doctors, I am confronted with the question of abortion, euthanasia, I know how attentive these people are to the suffering of their patients and I find these remarks truly unspeakable.”
