A recent video captures the moment three dogs are happily walking up the side of the Pyramid of Khafre in Egypt. The footage, filmed by paraglider Alex Lang on October 14, initially shows one of the dogs at the top of the famous ancient structure.
Lang noticed the dog, named Apollo, barking at a bird when he approached. Later, on October 17, another tour guide, Lauren Rathvon, filmed Apollo easily descending the pyramid, a moment that surprised many.
Ibrahim Elbendary, co-founder of the American Cairo Rescue Foundation, quickly identified Apollo, one of eight dogs that inhabit the area. These dogs, known for hunting crows, have made the pyramid their home after the arrival of their mother, Laika, who was looking for a safe place to give birth.
While it is unclear whether the three dogs in the video are part of the same pack, it is common to see Apollo and his companions in the pyramid, and Elbendary’s organization is dedicated to caring for these animals, providing them with food and medical care.
The situation of stray dogs in Egypt is worrying, with estimates indicating that there are up to 15 million of them in the country.
Elbendary expressed his excitement about Apollo’s video going viral, as he hopes it will draw attention to the plight of stray dogs in Cairo, Egypt, and as more people become interested in their welfare, positive changes can be made that will improve the lives of these animals and reduce their stigmatization, local media reported.
